Lunchtime Peel

Chemical Peels

Throughout the aging process our skin can experience laxity, hyperpigmentation, texture changes, dullness and even acne.  Fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, enlarged pores and discolorations can appear – leaving you looking older than you would prefer.  A medical-grade chemical peel is a mildly invasive procedure used to dissolve the upper layers of dry, damaged skin. This allows for cell proliferation which will fade brown spots and melasma, minimize pore size, decrease acne, and gives your collagen production a boost, which results in a more youthful glow.  Visit our Denver office for more information.

Chemical Peel Pre-treatment Guidelines

  • Make sure to inform your provider if you have an allergy to Aspirin or Phenol, as certain peels are contraindicated for these allergies.

  • Sun exposure and/or usage of a tanning bed, including self-tanning products must be avoided for 1 week prior.

  • Avoid Retin-A®, Renova®, Differin® (Adapalene 0.1%), Tazorac®, any Retinol products, or lightening products 7-10 days prior to treatment.

  • Waxing and/or use of chemical depilatories must be avoided for 1-2 weeks prior and after the treatment. Shaving is allowed 24-48 hours after treatment as long as there is no skin irritation.

  • Alert your provider if have taken any new prescriptions (specifically antibiotics) and/or acne medication in the last 6-9 months.

  • Area to be treated must be clean, and free of any lotion, makeup, and sunscreen. If you have any of these on, they must be completely washed off prior to treatment.

Chemical Peel Post-treatment Guidelines

  • Avoid sun exposure and/or use of tanning bed, including self-tanning products for 2 weeks after the treatment. Sun exposure within 2 weeks after treatment (natural sunlight or artificial tanning booth) may result in hypopigmentation (white spots) or hyperpigmentation (dark spots) that may not clear for several months or may even be permanent.

  • Plan NOT to exercise vigorously for the next 3-4 days after treatment.  Avoid excessive perspiration, as sweating may induce itching, water blisters and excessive internal warming which can induce post inflammatory hyperpigmentation  (Includes no hot tubs, saunas, or steam rooms).

  • Do NOT wash your skin for a minimum of 5 hours after treatment.

  • Expect to begin flaking or peeling at 2-3 days and expect to peel for approximately 2-7 days. Continue to moisturize the treated area for the duration of the peeling process. DO NOT pick or peel at loose skin. Picking or scrubbing at the skin in an attempt to speed the sloughing process can lead to pigment irregularities including scarring of the skin.

  • DO NOT worry if you don’t peel at all! Sometimes effective peels on skin in good condition will not go through the peeling process; the skin may only look rosy and have a glow after treatment.

  • Wash the treated area gently twice a day with a gentle cleanse (tepid water only), apply a healing and soothing moisturizer as often as needed, and wear sunscreen SPF 30+ daily.
